Scofield Magnet Middle School grade-8 student Diane Yang has achieved
impressive results in recent competitive mathematics events.
On Saturday, March 8, Diane won seventh place at the Connecticut State
MATHCOUNTS Competition at University of Hartford, based on three written
contests administered before lunch, and she won fourth place in the Countdown
Round, which was performed game-show style by the 12 top-scoring students,
before an audience of amazed and jealous observers. This competition included
172 students in grades 6-8 who qualified to participate by scoring among
the top quartile at chapter-level contests.
On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Diane Yang won third place among 132 participants
at the Southwest Connecticut Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition at Fairfield
University and captured first place in the Countdown Round.
Diane previously also scored top-quartile results and advanced to state
level MATHCOUNTS competition as a Scofield Magnet seventh-grader in 2007,
and for two consecutive years she won the title, "Stamford Top Middle
School Mathlete" at the annual district-wide Stamford Middle School
Math Competition.
MATHCOUNTS is the nation's premier math enrichment, coaching and competition
program for middle school students. Competition events have been organized
since 1984 by the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers. For more
