Two students from Scofield Magnet Middle White Team were National First Place winners in this year’s Exploravision Competition for their  invention of the future,  the Community Algae BioReactor.   Richard Ira and Brian Niguidula researched and developed the idea of collecting oil from algae as an invention of the future.  For their efforts they each received a $10,000 savings bond.  Scofield Magnet received a Toshiba lap top computer.
Mr. Satoshi Kawada from Toshiba presented the award to Richard and Brian on April 28, 2010.  They and their families will travel in June to Washington, DC to meet with their U.S. Congressional representatives, participate in media interviews, and showcase their work.  Their mentor for the project was Marc Ira and the Coach was Louise McMinn.
The Toshiba/NSTA Exploravision Competition typically receives over 6,000 entries. For more information, go to http://exploravision.org/winners/.
