The Magnet Middle School has a comprehensive
family/school partnership where parents are more knowledgeable and aware
of the school learning activities so that they can better support their
children. Our school has a shared school governance with the decision
making and resource allocation done at the individual school level.
The school based management system is comprised
of teachers, administrator, parents, and students. The governing body
is called the Cabinet and has a total of 12 members. Parents are full
partners in the decisions that affect their child and the family. They
are included in all decision-making and advisory committees of the Cabinet.
They also are provided with adequate training for such areas as policy,
curriculum, school reform initiatives, and safety. Students are able to
be heard and voice their opinions in this equal partnership process.
The Cabinet has four standing committees: communication, curriculum, environment
and student concernss, as well as various ad hoc committees. The
principal plays a pivotal role in making the parent and family involvement
a reality. The climate of the school is created to a large extent, by
the tone of the principal. This governing body is a driving force in ensuring
the continuing success of the Magnet Middle School.
