Cabinet Minutes
Friday, December 2, 2005

The meeting was called to order by Ms. Ferris after the Pledge. After introductions, she began with a short discussion of the reponsibliities of a Cabinet member, which are: to attend all Cabinet meetings; to be a member of at least one committee meeting; to relay information to the rest of your team/constituency; and to bring the concerns of others to this group.

We then read the Preamble to the Constitution of the Cabinet and discussed its meaning, which mainly is to uphold and safeguard the unique philosophy of our school.

Jo-Jo then explained the areas of each of the four standing committees:
Communications: to take the minutes of meetings and distribute them; to create and distribute any posters or handouts; to maintain the official list of Cabinet members and their email addresses.
Environment: to be concerned with the physical and non-physical climate of the building.
Student Concerns: to listen to and address concerns specific to students.
Curriculum: to look at what and how different subjects are taught and ways to improve.
Ad Hoc: committees formed to address a specific need.

In order to generate interest in the committee meetings, it was suggested that we provide food. This will be discussed further at the next meeting, which is on Friday, December 16th at 8:00 am.

Other fundraising ideas that were suggested today were: the Boxtops for Education program, Pennies for Patients (which supports students with leukemia) and St. Jude’s Math-athon.

At the December 16th meeting we will discuss organizational matters: how to disseminate information to the larger community; when committees will meet; how to generate support of committees; and what food will be provided and by whom. We will meet on the last Friday of the month which will give committees time to been before.

Respectfully submitted,
Betsy Nagurney
